Smart Home technology is not only cool but it can help you sell your home faster. Millennials and Gen Ys are the largest groups desiring a home with technology that keeps them secure, but even Baby Boomers look for more convenience in their lives too. Remember Baby Boomers are the generation that invented computers!
Connecting devices to your smart phone can save energy, money, and time. There are four categories of smart devices:
Utilities - Thermostat, light bulbs, sprinkler, electrical outlet, ceiling fan, stove, washer and dryer, powered window shades, etc.
Safety - Wireless key entry, doorbell, garage door, outdoor lighting, etc.
Security - Burglar alarm, smoke alarm, carbon monoxide detector, or any sensor that triggers a call for emergency assistance.
Audio / Visual - Personal assistant such as Alexa or Siri, TVs, music, etc.
Turning your home into a smart home can make your home memorable for potential buyers. Plus it is totally affordable now! You can find compatible devices at the large box home improvement stores such as Home Depot and Lowe's. If you are already invested in the Alexa products, you can find all sorts of great devices on Amazon that work with the Echo platform. My favorite is the smart garage door opener.
With today’s technology available and more affordable to consumers, it can be pretty easy to get started without too much out of pocket.
